Hades 9 Community Update April 5, 2018

Hey Guys!


This week we would like to talk about the death animations and effects for the game. .  Unit destruction will be something that has two stages, the loss of the ship will occur when its “health bar” depletes and what happens to the ship after that is something we want to open up for the player to decide.  When a ship is lost, it does not mean complete destruction, a ship’s crew and systems can be mostly neutralized while the hull remains largely intact.


In this hulked state the ship is a rich target to salvage or to be repaired and reclaimed.  When a ship is killed in this manner there will be visual effects showing the internal damage blowing out of the hull from different points with internal fires and explosions causing the ship to be internally destroyed while the bulk of its hull remains.


In the description of the video on YouTube you can read a bit more information about how the death animations are going to work in conjunction with the explosions show.


The other more flashy fate of a ship is the major destruction of the internal and external structure of the ship hull, fragmenting and breaking apart into debris and explosions.  This could be something beneficial as the debris may provide cover or it could just be a way to deny the reclamation or salvage of a ship hull along with much of the inventory inside.



We still need to make more of these animations and effects, and make tweak them in all kinds of ways to look more realistic and better, but they are fully functional ingame now, so we’ll be making some more videos of that during combat testing!


Among other things, we have also been working on the Camera Shake effect that happens when you are close to the muzzle flash of a gun, an impact, or exploding ship, for example.



This effect is being tweaked still. We are trying to make it noticeable without having to actually touch the gun or impact with your camera, but also not so noticeable that your camera flies everywhere, even though it is hilarious to see the first few times a dozen rockets impact near the camera.


The last topic for today is the scale of our ships. A few weeks ago we asked you what size you would like to see the flagship have, and so I want to show you what the final results are of the scale increase.



Since we have a bit more space between the different general ship classes, I’ve gone ahead and also increased the size of the battleships and dreadnought some, so they stand out more in their own right.
