“I got a runner! Track my bug, in pursuit, suspect one hundred metres coreward of my beacon.”

The figure in flight sped up, weaving between the Rim citizens too slow to clear out of his way. His prog […]

Boom went the door as it came off its hinges.

Bang went the gun as its owner fired at the silhouettes crowding the door frame.

Bink went the Metropolitan stun grenade as it bounced across the […]

    “Battlestations! Battlestations!”

The cry resounded through the ship, carried throughout Lyssa’s Fury by the ship’s tannoy. The internal lighting flashed to danger red and the crew sprang into action. […]

    “Mantikor!”

The cry was taken up by eight other voices and ended in a roar that all but drowned out the dull thump of the man’s head hitting the table.

A stack of shot glasses rattled and fell, rollin […]

Admiral William Redmon had always dreamt of being presented to the High Admiralty, to have his name on the lips of Hades 9’s most powerful Admirals.

    But not like this.

“Admiral Redmon, you stand here […]

They say that combat in the vacuum of space is silent.

    They are wrong.

“Contact. Port. Torpedo signatures. Twenty. 5 minutes 27 seconds to impact.”

“Contact. Port. Stealthed vessel. Unknown armame […]

Erinyes Salvage Yard is a living, breathing creature. Its form is vast, spanning an imperfect sphere several thousand kilometres across. A jump point makes its gaping maw and wrecked vessels are its body. […]

Today was the day. Today was William Cropper’s last day.

It had taken him some time to come to the decision, but when it came it was both exhilarating and liberating. All it had taken was a neat di […]

    “Fall back! Fall back!”

Trooper Zhenyi agreed wholeheartedly with the sentiment being expressed on the squad circuit. He was minus a pulse rifle and minus his squadmates. In retrospect, he should have gone rig […]

Dominikiia always dreamt her first official combat deployment on Hades would be a major action. She had accepted, grudgingly, that it would not necessarily be as grand or dramatic as she imagined it would be, but […]

    “You’ve been a naughty man.”

The speaker sat himself down at the desk, throwing his boots up onto the table as he leaned back. He balanced his chair on two legs as he looked over at the man across the ta […]

Those were the words that had turned a dreary evening into a fun, laughter-filled time for Francis Trellen. Francis grinned nervously over his drink at the woman opposite him […]

The Metropolitan practices Policing by Consent, it just so happens that the consent is not that of the public, but rather the corporates.

    Think closer to pre-Peelian Principles.

It was not everyday that the citizens and digizens of Hades were treated to the spectacle of a Navy lander on an attack run. The dark, hard angled object screamed over habitation stacks like a vengeful angel of […]

I kind of thought the metropolitan would be a bit better equipped than that, since they’re supposed to ensure the safety of trillions of human beings and are on the last safe haven in the galaxy, but still, a very nice short.

This may or may not be a spoiler but the “devastation” or “extinction” that is referred to happened only ~10 years ago and before that the station was not even a colony, it was more a nice offshore port for corps to hide money away from the taxman, a den for black marketeers, and a safe place to conduct any experiments or research away from the eyes of the governments. so they were REALLY not prepared to become the last hope of humanity. Im not sure what was the official number we decided on but before the devastation there was barely 1 trillion people living on Hades9, majority arrived recently being survivors who happened to be on ships and escape the devastation.
